Political Career	1. Was kept in different jails for three years in the various cities of the State as Aligarh, Faizabad, Unnao and Varanasi for raising voice against Fascism and Political Injustice. He was also arrested under MISA during Emergency Period. 2. Elected Member to the State Assembly in 1980, 1985, 1989, 1991, 2002, 2007 and 2012. 3. In 1981-82 was a member of Parliamentary Research, Reference and Studies Committee of the State Assembly. 4. In 1984-85 was a Member of Delegated Legislation Committee of the State Assembly. 5. Was Member of Estimates and Petitions Committee of the State Assembly. 6. Was Cabinet Minister for Labour, Employment Muslim Waqf and Hajj from in the State Government form 05-12-1989 to 24-06-1991. 7. Was Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha from 26-11-1996 to 09-03-2002. 8. Leader of Opposition in the UP State Assembly from 13-05-2002 to 29-08-2003 9. Was Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Urban Development, Water Supply, Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation from 06-09-2003 to 13-05-2007. 10. From 18-03-2012 is a Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Muslim Waqf, Urban Development, Water Supply, Urban Employment, Minority Welfare and Hajj. 11. President of Minorities Forum of India and Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust. 12. Former Trustee of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Trust. 13. Former National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party and Member of Central Parliamentary Board of the Party.
At Present	In UP Govt. Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Muslim Waqf, Urban Development, Water Supply, Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Integrated Urban Development, Minority Welfare and Hajj.
